Discussing the new EP titled Shake
Recorded in The SoCal Sound Studios. interview + 3 songs
Sunflower Bean has a new EP, released in September, titled Shake and they join Middays host and SoCal Sound Music Director Julie Slater for a chat!
Sunflower Bean is mainly centered in Brooklyn, NY; however recently have become more of a bicoastal band, since Nick Kivlen relocated to Los Angeles. Additionally, The SoCal Sound does claim Sunflower Bean as one of our own, as this marks the 4th visit to our studios for a session!
Their new EP, Shake is an homage to a particular ring that lead singer Julia Cumming wears:
She continues to explain that additional inspiration comes from a long time shared affinity for bands like Black Sabbath, that started with all the members when they were teenagers. Julia continues to explain further “I think when it came, when it came to, like, also making shake, we kind of like, brought there were so many. I mean, a huge reference for shake and for all of us as teenagers. When we started, the band was like Black Sabbath, you know, like there's like a lot of, like a lot of sweetness in our taste....
There was like, a heaviness that brought us together and also, yeah, it was like a unifying point at the beginning. And now, like, at this juncture, it's still a unifying point because we just really love to, like, play together and rock out together and wanted to make something on record that we could do that was live.”
Sunflower Bean performed 3 songs; “Lucky Number”, “Teach Me To Be Bad”, “Shake”
