Whether you were there in person, or streamed it from your home, Fire Aid was an evening to remember! The SoCal Sound was on site at The Kia Forum and at Intuit Dome talking to fans and listeners about what was sure to be an epic night of music. The vibes were high, the smiles not in short supply, and the excitement palpable as fans lined up in the cold January air, and motorcades of black vans entered the venues, full of the biggest artist in the world.
Put together in only two weeks (quite an impressive feat), the night was full of many goose-bump moments. Including but not limited to Billie Eilish and Billie Jo Armstrong of Green Day opening up the night together, to Joni Mitchell’s emotionally stunning performance to Gwen Stefani of No Doubt having “my LA Boys” sing, “I’m Just a Girl” from the crowd to, to The Red-Hot Chili Peppers doing what they do best- singing about their beloved state, and ours, California. The night was truly emotional a whole lot of fun.
Possibly the biggest surprise and greatest pleasure of the night was watching the living members of Nirvana bring bad ass women on stage to perform with them. Saint Vincent sang “Breed,” Kim Gordon did “School,” Joan Jett sang “Terrestrial Pissings,” and Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet did “All Apologies.” No doubt that they did Kurt proud. The night also marked Dave Grohl’s return to playing live in many months. Phew, what a treat that was!
