The SoCal Sound welcomed Amythyst Kiah for an intimate interview and live performance as part of The SoCal Sound Sessions. Amythyst also shared insights into her spiritual practices and inspirations, citing Zen Buddhism and the writings of Alan Watts as key influences. These ideas manifest in her songwriting, especially on her latest album, “Still + Bright”, exploring Tao Te Ching, and themes of inner peace and the beauty of the present moment.

Following the interview, Amythyst performed in The SoCal Sound Studios with a trio of powerful songs, each showcasing her remarkable vocal range and storytelling prowess:

• "I Will Not Go Down": A battle cry wrapped in poignant lyrics and stirring instrumentation. Inspired by hero’s journey tales and her love for symphonic metal, this track is a fusion of epic narratives and Appalachian roots.
• "Empire of Love": A celebration of identity and belonging, Amythyst reflected on reclaiming her Appalachian roots. The song embodies her belief that everyone deserves to thrive in their communities without sacrificing authenticity.
• "Silk and Petals": A haunting yet upbeat track inspired by the gothic tale The Haunting of Bly Manor. Amythyst juxtaposes the eerie narrative with an infectious rock groove, reflecting on themes of sacrifice, love, and grief.
